Bio

Dr. Jellinek earned his undergraduate degree at Columbia College and his medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, completed pediatrics training at Montefiore Hospital and Medical Center, and residencies in child psychiatry at Children’s Hospital Medical Center, and in psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital. Currently he is Professor of Psychiatry and of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School and Adjunct Professor of Social Policy and Health Care at the Heller School, Brandies University.

Dr. Jellinek was Chief of Child Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital for 32 years from 1979-2012. Dr. Jellinek has written or co-written over 350 original reports, articles and chapters, and served as Editor for the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Bright Futures in Practice: Mental Health. With Michael Murphy, Ed. D, he developed the Pediatric Symptom Checklist, which is the most widely used brief screening instrument to help primary care pediatricians identify children with emotional problems.

Dr. Jellinek has served in several administrative positions at Massachusetts General Hospital including Vice-President for Ambulatory Services (1990-1994), Senior Vice-President for Hospital Operations (1994-1996), and Senior Vice President for Administration (1996-2000). He led the hospital’s master-planning process and the Construction of the Yawkey Ambulatory Center. In 2000, he was named interim and then permanent President, Newton Wellesley Hospital, Newton, MA, (2000-2012). During his term he built a strong management team that turned a negative margin to positive, increased clinical revenue fourfold, and achieved 95th percentile in patient satisfaction. In 2012, Dr. Jellinek was promoted to Chief Clinical Officer, Partners HealthCare responsible for the implementation of the EPIC medical record system, a $1.2 billion-dollar initiative which required building a team of 600 people and facing difficult clinical integration issues. In 2014, Dr. Jellinek was named CEO, Community Network and EVP, Lahey Health System with responsibility for Population Health Management and $900 million of clinical revenue.

In 2016, Dr. Jellinek founded Ulysses Consulting, LLC focused CEO leadership and senior team development. Current clients include venture capital firms, rapidly growing start-up companies, real estate development firms, a construction company, and non-profits in health care. Recent assignments include developing the culture and management structures for a company that grew from 13 to over 120 employees ($30M to $500M in revenue), helping transition a several hundred million-dollar firm from father to son, helping resolve friction between a CEO and a critical member of the senior team, advising two companies near bankruptcy secondary to the impact of Covid, coaching a first time CEO founder building an artificial intelligence start-up now valued at $950M, and helping a senior partner begin to change the culture of an investment firm.

Dr. Jellinek lives in Newton with his wife Barbara, a retired nurse practioner, three children, and, currently, 5 grandchildren.
